Real gains at the Gym
this is what the gym teaches you. physical gainz come and go but this one stays.
Hey, friends welcome back to another blog, In today’s blog, I am going to list the benefits of working out, and what I think the GYM teaches you. Working out will obviously enhance your physical appearance and make you look more attractive, all that is fine but what’s more valuable is the journey behind these results. It’s the journey that will shape you as a person and build your character. Let’s get into it:
The benefits:
Commitment
Pushing past your limits
Patience is Key
Discipline > Motivation
Persistent Effort
Commitment: when you start working out, you can't foresee your results but you have faith in whatever you’re doing and this faith is what keeps you hanging and teaches you to trust the process! Even if it takes longer to get those abs, you still put in the work and do not give up ONLY because you have made a promise to yourself and have committed. This is what separates a winner from a loser. You only lose when you give up. There is no way you lose if you put in the hard work, work your ass off, and are committed to what you're doing.
Pushing past your limits: there have been so many instances in the gym, where I’m lifting weights or doing pushups till failure, this means I’m past that stage where my muscles start burning. However, I continue to do the exercises till they start shaking and I just cannot do it anymore. BUT it is the last rep, the whole body is shaking and the movement is incomplete; literally, everything (your muscles, your mind) is telling you to not complete it and give up. This is exactly the time when you say ‘shut the f*ck up’ to the voice in your head and complete the rep!! Just. Do. It. Best feeling on earth!!! (gym freaks will relate). Over a period of time, your mind and body will not only develop tolerance to such intense pain but will also learn it’s crucial to do something regardless of the way you feel.
Patience is Key: it takes quite a lot of time for teenagers to see progress and results in the gym because we can’t spend a lot of hours working out as we have to balance academics as well (and we have lotssss of distractions). Hence, it is important to not get dispirited and lose all the momentum that you have picked up through consistently working out. It is hard to get back that momentum once you lose it, as discipline, hard work, and consistency are the keys to unlocking it. You will become more patient when you start going to the gym, as you won’t see the results quickly. It will also make you value progress and tiny achievements.
Discipline > Motivation: you aren’t hyped and energetic before going to the gym every day, but after the gym, you definitely are. This is because you feel good about yourself and you know for a fact that you’ve given justice to your time and energy by channelizing it in the right place. You are motivated only 5% of the time, the rest of the time it is your discipline and grit. This 95% is what drives you. Anyone can exercise if they are motivated/WANT to exercise, but this motivation doesn’t last long and is a scam as my friend Vivaan states in his blog. It takes a highly committed person and a disciplined individual to show up regardless of what they’re feeling. This is what the gym teaches you.
Persistent Effort: do not give up, no matter what. If you can’t see progress, change the plan, and put in more work but don’t lose courage. Giving up is not an option. The gym teaches you that life has its own ups and downs but the way to succeed is to go from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm, and it is a matter of sheer perseverance that separates the achievers from the rest. Failure is crucial for growth and learning, failure teaches you more than success (- Kohli). Therefore, do not give up, be consistent, put in the extra work, have some patience and lastly be persistent.
