Hello friends, welcome back to another blog, hope you’re having a nice week!! Today’s block is gonna be on cold showers, there’s a lot of hype on social media about this thing, so I decided to try it out myself!! Before starting, I’d like to thank my friend Teerth for inspiring me to start cold showers and it is only because of him that I’m having cold showers every day haha…
So, I'm pretty sure some of y’all wanted to start cold showers but could not because maybe it was uncomfortable, difficult, not beneficial etc. So for those people here’s how to cold shower:
The first week – start with hot showers and towards the end make it cooler, this reduces the anxiety; you basically go with the flow. You may play some good music and shower vibe to distract yourself from the constant shivers. This will be a little challenging so you must force yourself and think about long-term benefits of short-term pleasure!!
The second week – don’t start immediately with hot water, instead, turn on the cold shower and then slowly go under the shower so its not sudden. I know it’s tough, but just FORCE yourself and I’m pretty sure your favorite song will help you handle the shivers and tackle the discomfort. Yes that’s pretty much it, I’m not an expert but I used this technique to make myself comfortable. I guarantee you that by week three, you’ll be used to cold showering and it won’t be such a big deal. On top of that by the 3rd week you will have formed a new good habit that’s gonna be very very effective over the long term.
The following are the benefits of cold showering –
1. Self Discipline – when you start taking cold showers every day, its like setting up a routine for yourself, a challenging routine!! Even if it’s cold outside, you still follow your routine, and this builds up discipline and “discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment”!!
2. Consistency – when you do something challenging every single day for months without giving up and without breaking the streak you’ve created, you’re obviously being consistent!
3. Grit – as I said, if you take cold showers in spite of the weather being cold, its like sticking to your routine and challenging yourself…no matter what happens you stick to it!!
4. Motivation begets motivation, Procrastination begets Procastination – when you know you’ve started your day nicely, so for instance it can be reading a book or working out…you aim to continue that throughout the day. So, for me, if I do something productive in the mornings, I wish to do good things throughout the day while it plays itself!
